Why Shiatsu?

Ideally, shiatsu is used by a carefully trained practitioner to keep a healthy body in tune.  However, when the body is in distress or has suffered illness or damage, shiatsu is a valuable aid in recovery, one that has proven effective in countless cases to relieve or completely cure adverse conditions.

Migraine, heart disease, sleeplessness, whiplash injury, asthma, stomach and liver complaints, back problems, hormonal distress, tiredness are just a few of the complaints that have been eased or even completely healed by shiatsu.  Often, the source of the problem, as described by the patient, is found to lie in quite another part of the body, which can be treated effectively to remove distress.

Shiatsu is often a cultural shock to the Western mind, where medical science has too often concentrated on treating symptoms, not the causes for those symptoms.

"Shiatsu: conversation without words."

Welcome to the shiatsu practice of Eisbrand H.F. Sijmons

In this website I hope to describe the amazing way shiatsu works and why I am dedicated to this treatment.  I also hope to make it clear in a nutshell what shiatsu means, when it is prescribed and who I am.

An ancient cure evolved in the Far East, shiatsu was developed to prevent illness and to allow the self-healing powers of the body to work and correct the condition.  Through shiatsu the body will be stimulated to start the healing process and keep the body on the right path to health.

The medical shiatsu therapist first makes a diagnosis of the problem by checking the body’s pressure points – the so-called “tsubopoints of the meridian -- with his thumbs and the palm of his hand.  Shiatsu (literally “finger-pressure) is based on the knowledge that problems in muscles, nerves and organs reveal themselves in the network of meridians through which the life-energy flows. “This inspection and all other shiatsu treatments are gentle and non-invasive and are generally performed through the clothing of the patient.”
